24th October 2022 - United Nations Day

The Theme for 2022 is " End Racism, Build Peace"

Although The United Nations officially came into existence on 24th October 1945, a similar organization, the League of Nations, had already been formed at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. The League was the first organization of sovereign states designed to be universal and devoted to the settlement of disputes and the prevention of war. However, in 1945 it was decided that a new world body was needed to maintain international peace. This resulted in Representatives from 50 countries meeting at the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco to draw up the United Nations Charter. The Charter was ratified by a majority of signatories.

The United Nations became the world’s only totally universal global organization. It became the leading forum to address issues that exceeded national boundaries which could not be resolved by a country acting alone.

There are many purposes of the United Nations:

Peace and Security

Human Rights

Humanitarian Aid

Sustainability and Climate Action

International Law, and

Global Issues

We hope that with all the political unrest in the world today, that we can adhere to the 2022 Theme - End Racism, Build Peace
