'Digging up the Hills'

Updated: Nov 29, 2023

You may have seen our advert in the Echo regarding our General Meeting this coming Saturday which will be followed by our speaker Rhys Hall a metal detectorist.

Rhys has spent a lot of his time detecting at the WW11 Chidlow Army Camps Site. Most of the items he discovered belonged to the soldiers who came from all over Australia to train at the camps. Rhys also spent a lot of his time finding out to whom the items belonged and to try and return them to the families of the soldiers.

In 2020 MHHS presented an exhibition called Head for the Hills which was a collaboration between the Mundaring & Hills Historical Society and the Friends of the Chidlow WW2 Camps, and featured artefacts collected by detectorists and heritage consultants from the former Chidlow Army Camp sites.
