Hitching Post?

Updated: 22 hours ago

Recently the MHHS was given what is believed is a “hitching post”, which has been languishing behind the Mundaring Hotel. We think it had been there for some time and this winter was recovered in the previous Men’s Shed grounds and was under threat of being used for firewood. One of our members saw this and recued it as there were obvious latitude and longitude coordinates engraved into the wood. We have since determined that the coordinates showed the rail would have originated somewhere behind what is now the Salvos Op Shop in Mundaring.

It is believed that it could have been affiliated with the old Mundaring Primary School, with children who may have ridden to school and left their ride hitched to the rail whilst they attended school.

Also, locals would also have ridden to the shops on horses and needed a hitching rail to secure their horses whilst going about their business.

Do any of our followers have any stories of such happening in their family history. If so, please come in and see us and tell us your story.
